STATEMENT
The city moves and I move with it.
Walking, retracing steps, lingering.
I wander, return and pause.
The city’s layered textures, shifting rhythms, and unexpected juxtapositions are the heartbeat of my practice. I am drawn to its contradictions, its urgency and stillness, its clarity and chaos. From this ever-changing landscape, I gather impressions, allowing them to unfold into abstracted visions of imagined places, paintings built from colour, rhythm, movement, and memory.
My process begins with walking. I retrace steps and linger through familiar streets, not to arrive, but to see. Each journey becomes a mapping of experience, a weaving of past and present, observation and reflection. What is seen merges with what is remembered, forming a kind of inner architecture, shifting and alive.
Photography is a companion on these walks. I embrace both the speed of digital and the stillness of film. With analogue, I find restraint, a call to see more deeply and to wait. The unpredictability and imperfections of the developed print add a tangible sense of time and nostalgia to my remembrances.
In the studio, these fragments, walks, images, sensations, gather and transform. Painting becomes a continuation of the journey: a space to explore, to lose and find myself again. Each mark is a step; each layer a trace of somewhere I’ve been. What emerges on the canvas is not a map, but a memory, abstracted, emotional, and deeply rooted in the act of moving through the world.
